The purpose of the Marketing BU is to sustainably maximise cash flows from the marketing of Anglo American products and services. In support of this, we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in PBT by 2023.
Within the South African Coal Business unit, we are transitioning to a more flexible, more agile and more value focused direction. Consequently, we are placing heightened emphasis on the degree to which our sales/contracting position is both flexible and market applicable. Thus ensuring that Anglo Coal maximises value from its sales position.
The South African Coal Business unit has, amongst the existing Equity domestic sales, established 3rd party sourcing and trading; as well as origination and Mineral Residue Deposits (MRD) material transactions. These MRD transactions, in conjunction with the effective sourcing and trading of coal transactions, are critical to value generation.
Support the execution of the Physical Sourcing, trading, origination and sales strategies for in-county coal transactions within the region in line with the overall Trading strategy and within risk tolerances and governance frameworks.
Provide specialist support to the Marketing Manager – South Africa on the domestic market opportunities to achieve maximum commercial value.

Sales and purchase Strategy
Assist in the execution of the various sales and purchase transactions in-country.
Deliver on ad-hoc sales opportunities in-country supporting global equity and trade strategies and target delivery.
Contribute towards meeting and/or exceeding budget sales through ad-hoc products and sales.
Optimization and Growth
Resolve physical and financial inefficiencies.
Maintain long-term relationships with in-county brokers, traders and producers.
Maintain collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders.
Risk and Governance
Ensure transactions are conducted within Anglo American Group guidelines, procedures and authorities.
Ensure all contracts are performed in accordance with agreed terms and conditions.
Coal’s characteristics and end-uses.
Contractual arrangements in place with customers.
Relevant legislation and contractual frameworks, procedures and systems.
Sound understanding of logistic systems.
Coal markets, trading and logistics.
Coal demand and customers’ needs for relevant markets.
Methods of maximising the value of sales positions.
Any other requirements to perform the work effectively
Physical sales and marketing / trading experience and / or experience working in the mining industry in supply chain / operations / finance.
Ability to articulate MRD purchase and sale strategies to a broader audience.
Some business travel to visit customers / counterparties.
